Accra: The auditorium of the British Council came alive when celebrated events host, OgeeTheMC, held the maiden edition of the MCs Workshop, a capacity-building platform designed to mentor, educate, and inspire the next generation of Ghanaian event MCs.
According to Ghana News Agency, the workshop brought together a vibrant mix of seasoned professionals, upcoming MCs, and entertainment enthusiasts who gathered to learn, network, and share insights on building sustainable careers in the hosting and events industry. The session featured an impressive lineup of speakers who shared practical lessons drawn from years of experience in the creative sector.
Angel Town, longtime manager of multiple award-winning artist Sarkodie, emphasised discipline, professionalism, and relationship management, reminding participants that consistency and respect often open doors that talent alone cannot. Abeiku Sarkcess, Sarkodie's hypeman, shared techniques on commanding the stage, highlighting the importance of reading audiences, maintaining control, and projecting energy with intention.
Musician KiDi engaged participants on how MCs and artistes can collaborate effectively on stage, describing MCs as 'the bridge between the crowd and the performer.' He urged them to build chemistry with artists for smoother, more memorable shows. Creative artist Joey B encouraged participants to embrace individuality and innovation, noting that 'in this industry, your uniqueness is your strength - don't lose it trying to sound like everyone else.'
Adding an international dimension to the discussion, Jamaican host Kevoy B shared his experience managing global events and engaging diverse audiences, while Ghanaian MC Kabutey took participants through voice control, preparation, and audience management. Legal expert Jonathan Amable, Esq., also educated participants on entertainment law and contract awareness, advising them to protect their intellectual property and treat MCing as a business.
OgeeTheMC himself trained attendees on the fundamentals of the MC and hypeman profession, sharing strategies that make one exceptional in the craft. He also called for greater inclusion of female MCs, encouraging the industry to create bigger platforms for women. A highlight of the event was a live performance segment where upcoming MCs showcased their talents. MC Skulfees impressed the audience with a confident delivery that earned him accolades and a gift from OgeeTheMC.
The youngest participant, 12-year-old Nyamedo Kofi Ampofo Osei, expressed excitement over the opportunity to learn from his idol, while Michael Offei, a Takoradi-based MC, received loud applause for a spoken-word piece creatively weaving the names of speakers and guests into a poetic tribute. The day's music was powered by DJ Shiwaawa, with soulful interludes from Amiel the guitarist, keeping the atmosphere lively throughout.
The event, moderated by MC Yaa Yeboah and MC Morgan, attracted several notable personalities, including Chantel Kristin of the German Embassy in Accra, media personality Andy Dosty, Dr Louisa Satekla, wife of music star Stonebwoy, and Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, Head of Public Relations for Burniton Music Group. In his closing remarks, OgeeTheMC expressed gratitude to all speakers, guests, and participants for their support, describing the workshop as the beginning of a long-term mentorship vision.
'This workshop isn't just about holding a microphone,' he said. 'It's about building confidence, professionalism, and community. The goal is to raise a generation of MCs who represent Ghana anywhere in the world with pride and excellence.' The maiden edition of the MCs Workshop ended on a high note, with participants describing it as a career-shaping experience and calling for more editions to reach other regions across the country.
