Keta MCE Outlines Plans for Annual Construction of CHPS Compounds

Keta: Mr. Wisdom Seade, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has announced a strategic initiative to construct two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in different communities each year. This plan aims to enhance access to healthcare within the municipality.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Seade elaborated on the initiative during the launch of the Keta Municipal Hospital's 100th anniversary celebration. He emphasized that the project is designed to eradicate communicable diseases and expand health education across communities. The directive for this initiative comes from President John Dramani Mahama, instructing the use of 10 percent of the District Common Fund for the construction of CHPS compounds annually.

Mr. Seade explained that this initiative would address the challenges faced by residents in remote areas regarding healthcare access, thereby reducing preventable deaths and injuries. For the 2025 phase of the project, communities such as Seva and Tengekope have been identified as beneficiaries, with land acquisition preparations already underway.

He highlighted the commitment of the NDC government to prioritize citizen well-being through accessible healthcare centers. Furthermore, Mr. Seade pledged government support for the Keta Municipal Hospital and appealed to individuals, corporate bodies, and organizations to assist in upgrading the hospital's infrastructure and services. The possibility of naming the hospital after the late President Jerry John Rawlings was also mentioned, honoring his legacy in health promotion.

Alhaji Faruk Iddrissu, Administrator of the Keta Municipal Hospital, noted the facility's challenges in various units, which necessitate urgent renovation for effective service delivery. He acknowledged the government's efforts, including the establishment of a new Infectious Diseases Centre and contributions from the MTN Ghana Foundation and other supporters.

The hospital also recognized support from Amiki Club, Duamenefa Foundation, and Mr. Mawuko Dzikunu, among others, for their contributions. During the anniversary launch, the hospital unveiled its new logo and called for continued support from the government and development partners.
