Berekum: Mr. Jacob Kwadwo Aleeba, the Berekum East Municipal Director of Health, has advised families to allow their girls to take the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. He emphasized that the vaccine is scientifically proven to protect girls between the ages of nine and 14 years against cervical cancers, urging families to disregard unfounded myths and misconceptions about the HPV vaccine.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Aleeba was speaking at the launch of the administration of the HPV vaccine in the municipality, scheduled between October 7 and October 11, 2025. He highlighted that cervical cancers remain the second most common cancers in the country, underscoring the importance of the vaccination program.
Mr. Aleeba also assured that the directorate has sufficient HPV vaccines and called on basic schools, particularly private ones in the municipality, to cooperate and support the directorate in vaccinating the girls. He made a plea to basic school authorities to allow field vaccination personnel to access the schools to undertake the vaccination exercise successfully.
