Ensign Global University’s Dr. Sutherland Honoured at China-West Africa Health Summit

Accra: Dr. Edward Kofi Sutherland, a medical doctor currently serving as a lecturer and Medical Director at Ensign Global University, has been named among the top 10 Medical Experts in Ghana.

According to Ghana News Agency, this recognition was awarded in acknowledgment of Dr. Sutherland's contributions to medical practice, research, and healthcare leadership, as well as his dedication to improving healthcare outcomes in Ghana and the wider West African region. Dr. Sutherland, who is also a public health scholar and implementation scientist, serves as the Site Director for West Africa at the Center for Global Surgery, University of Utah. He received this honour during an awards ceremony at the 2025 China-West Africa Medical and Health Industry Summit and Expo held in Accra.

The event was organized by the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWA) in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Trade and Industry. It gathered hundreds of delegates from across Africa and Asia under the theme, 'Advancing Cancer Care through Innovation, Knowledge Exchange, and Strategic Partnership.'

In his remarks, Dr. Sutherland described the recognition as a significant milestone that highlights the commitment of his colleagues and partners to transforming healthcare outcomes in Ghana. He emphasized the role of Ensign Global University and the Center for Global Surgery, University of Utah, in advancing medical education and public health, and in strengthening healthcare systems in the region.

Dr. Sutherland chaired the Oncology Forum at the Summit, where he led presentations and discussions on the integration of AI in oncology, cancer prevention and early detection, treatment accessibility across Ghana and West Africa, and health equity and strategic partnerships. The forum featured guest speakers from leading institutions in Ghana and China, providing insights that could influence cancer policy and clinical practice across Ghana and Africa.
