Dr. Eric Oduro Osae Rejects GTEC Directive Over Doctoral Title

Accra: Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, a former Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, has publicly rejected the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission's (GTEC) directive to cease using the title 'Dr.' following questions about the validity of his terminal degrees. In a letter addressed to the GTEC's Director General, Dr. Osae stated that he had not received any formal communication from the GTEC regarding the matter.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Osae reaffirmed his confidence in the legitimacy of his academic credentials. He expressed his desire to see any such communication, should it exist, through appropriate official channels to respond accordingly and exercise his rights under Ghanaian law.

The GTEC had earlier declared his joint PhD in Political Economy from Universidad Central de Nicaragua (UCN) and his Doctorate from the Swiss Management Centre (SMC) University as invalid. The Commission claimed those degrees did not meet the required standards for recognition in Ghana.

The directive, which questioned the recognition of his joint PhD from Universidad Central de Nicaragua and the Swiss Management Centre University, has ignited widespread debate across academic and professional circles in Ghana.

While the GTEC maintains its stance on the non-recognition of certain foreign degrees, Dr. Osae insists that his qualifications were earned through rigorous academic work and deserve respect.

The controversy has sparked broader conversations about degree accreditation, international education standards, and the role of regulatory bodies in Ghana's academic landscape.
