Bawumia Pledges to Restructure Nation’s Budget Statement

Dormaa-ahenkro: Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, has pledged to restructure the nation’s budget statement when he becomes President. He expressed optimism that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would win the Election 2028 if delegates give him another chance as the party flagbearer. Under his proposed government, a constituency-based budget would be implemented to address development needs at the constituency level.

According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Dr Bawumia made this pledge while addressing polling station officers, electoral area coordinators, and branch executives of the NPP in the Dormaa Central Constituency at Dormaa-Ahenkro. This meeting was part of his campaign tour in the Bono Region. He was accompanied by notable figures such as Mr Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, former Majority Leader, Nana Akomea, former Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation (STC), and Mr Kwame Baffoe, Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP.

Alhaji Dr Bawumia also held a similar meeting in Wamfie in the Dormaa West Constituency. He emphasized that local contractors would be predominantly engaged to execute development projects under his administration. He promised that the practice of awarding local project contracts in Accra would end. Additionally, he proposed annual constituency town hall meetings for polling station officers, electoral area coordinators, and branch executives.

As he canvasses votes of NPP delegates ahead of the party’s Election 2028 Presidential Primary slated for January 31, 2026, Alhaji Dr Bawumia assured that NPP members would benefit from his government. He recounted his achievements as Vice President under former President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo’s administration, including the implementation of 33 policies like mobile money interoperability.

He highlighted that the mobile money interoperability initiative resulted in the creation of eight million mobile money accounts, which has now grown to 24 million users. This expansion has generated job opportunities, with the number of momo agents increasing from 107,000 to 900,000. He also spearheaded projects like the Zipline initiative, the Ghana card, and digital identity.

Alhaji Dr Bawumia urged the NPP to remain strong and encouraged delegates to endorse him as the party flagbearer to regain political power in 2028. He also called for a respectful campaign, focusing on issues and avoiding indecent language.
