Asokwa Community Celebrates New Mechanized Borehole Installation

Asokwa: The people of Asokwa in the Bekwai Municipality can now heave a sigh of relief following the inauguration of a mechanized borehole to address the long-lasting water challenge in the community.

According to Ghana News Agency, the facility was donated by Nana Abena Adomah, daughter of the queen mother of Bekwai, as part of the Improving Access to Water in Bekwai area project. This initiative, spearheaded by Nana Adomah, was established to honor her mother, Nana Adwoa Pinamang, and aims to alleviate the daily burden of residents who previously had to trek long distances to fetch water, sometimes from unsafe sources.

Mr. Charles Adu Gyamfi, Assembly Member for Asokwa Tonsuom Electoral Area, praised Nana Abena Adomah for her foresight and generosity during the inauguration ceremony. He noted that water scarcity had been a significant challenge in the community, affecting households, schools, and local businesses. He emphasized that the borehole would ensure access to safe drinking water and improve sanitation and overall quality of life.

On her part, Nana Abena Adomah explained that her commitment to complement her mother’s efforts and the Municipal Assembly in promoting sustainable development inspired her donation. She stressed that access to potable water should be a basic right for all citizens and expressed her desire for every household in Bekwai and beyond to enjoy this necessity without difficulty.

Residents of Asokwa, particularly women and children who bore the brunt of fetching water, expressed profound gratitude to Nana Abena Adomah. They described the project as life-changing and pledged to safeguard the facility to ensure its longevity, while some residents appealed for similar interventions in other parts of the municipality facing similar challenges.

The commissioning of the borehole has been widely celebrated, with many hailing Nana Abena Adomah as a shining example of selflessness and community leadership. Her gesture, they believe, sets a precedent for other well-meaning individuals to emulate to bridge development gaps in local communities.

With the provision of this mechanized borehole, the Asokwa community is expected to witness improved standards of living, enhanced sanitation, and reduced health risks associated with unsafe water sources-a development that has brought renewed hope and relief to the residents.
