Cape coast: Mfantsipim School, the reigning champions of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has beaten city rivals Adisadel College and visitors Prempeh College emphatically to book their ticket to the semi-finals of the 2025 edition of the competition in Cape Coast.
According to Ghana News Agency, ‘The School’ took a significant lead right from the beginning of the contest and maintained their dominance throughout, eventually securing a victory with 64 points. Adisadel and Prempeh both finished with 40 points each. The contest, which was anticipated to be a ‘clash of the titans’, saw Mfantsipim taking a comfortable lead and cruising to victory to cement their reign.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement, tension, cheers, and protests. By the end of the first round, Mfantsipim had already set the pace with 25 points, followed by Prempeh with 20 and Adisadel with 15. They extended their lead in the second round’s ‘speed race’, amassing 41 points, while Prempeh and Adisadel lagged behind with 22 and 15 points respectively.
In the third round, Adisadel showed potential by scoring the highest point (six) for the ‘problem of the day’, bringing their total to 21 points. However, Mfantsipim maintained their lead with 45 points, and Prempeh continued in second place with 24 points. Despite prayers and worship by the Adisadel team, they concluded the fourth round ‘True/False’ session with 31 points, while Mfantsipim increased their lead to 61 points. Prempeh remained 21 points behind the champions.
The final round saw a commendable performance from Adisadel in the ‘riddle’ session, but it was insufficient to advance them to the next stage. Mfantsipim School is now set to join Ghana Secondary Technical School and Mankranso SHS in the semi-finals, as they await six more schools to join them.
