Makeshift Jubilee Market to Close After Five Years

Accra: The makeshift Jubilee Park Market, created five years ago to ensure social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, will officially close on October 13, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) announced that all transport terminals and operations currently sited at the Jubilee Park will also cease and be relocated to the Apremdo Central Market (Abenbebom) Lorry Station.

The new location features designated spaces for traders and facilities for handling bulk cargo. The Council explained that the move is linked to plans to repurpose the Jubilee Park, a facility originally established to commemorate Ghana’s Golden Jubilee.

In the Western Region, however, the park had been converted into a temporary trading centre during the 2019 COVID-19 pandemic, a development some residents opposed. Many argued that Abenbebom was a more suitable venue, but political considerations prevailed at the time.

The statement urged all traders and stakeholders to comply with the directive, warning that failure to do so could result in sanctions, including forfeiture of goods, in line with the Assembly’s bye-laws.
