Nana Gyan-Apenteng’s Legacy Celebrated for Anti-Corruption Stance

Accra: The Acting Board Chairman of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Dr. Nana Charles Sifa Twum, paid tribute to the late Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, the Apagyahene of Akyem Ati Amanfrom, for his unwavering stance against corruption. Dr. Twum highlighted Nana Gyan-Apenteng’s dedication to exposing societal vices through his writings, describing him as a man who fought valiantly for his country.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Twum’s remarks were made during an interview on the sidelines of the launch of an autobiography in honor of Nana Gyan-Appenteng in Accra. The book, titled ‘What I Choose to Remember,’ was completed before the journalist’s passing and was published posthumously by his family to honor his legacy as an accomplished writer.

The 22-chapter book, published by Digibooks Ghana Limited, uses humor and storytelling to provide a detailed account of Nana Gyan-Apenteng’s life. It shares experiences from his childhood, adult life, work, and international travels, illustrating how these shaped his journey through student activism, journalism, and political advocacy.

Dr. Twum also emphasized Nana Gyan-Apenteng’s passion for art and Ghanaian culture, noting his efforts to promote the country’s cultural heritage. He recalled, “It didn’t come as a surprise when I was told by the people who came in that he had entered the business of the arts.”

The decision by Nana Gyan-Apenteng’s family to publish the book was praised by Dr. Twum, who urged the media to continue addressing societal issues as a tribute to the late journalist. He stated, “We need to talk about the vices of society, we need to fight with our voices and our pens what he was fighting.”
