Oti region: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC), has launched a programme aimed at empowering youth leaders from the districts of Krachi East, Nkwanta South, and Nkwanta North. The focus of the initiative is on adolescent reproductive rights and child protection issues.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Innocent Agbolosu, the Oti Regional Director of Social Welfare, provided guidance to the youth leaders on critical topics including adolescent reproductive rights and child protection. In his discussion, Mr. Agbolosu stressed the necessity of safeguarding adolescents against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and highlighted the significance of promoting family planning.
Facilitators from the Ghana Health Service, along with other experts, delivered educational sessions on adolescent sexual rights, child responsibilities, and protective measures. The participants of the programme were also tasked with creating action plans to actively engage their respective groups and communities, ensuring effective dissemination of the information received.
The programme not only aimed to educate but also to monitor progress within the communities, ensuring that the knowledge acquired by the participants is practically applied. This initiative is a joint effort between UNFPA and ORCC, with financial backing provided by UNFPA.
